Baby Boy

I haven't written much about this pregnancy and I wanted to take some time to write a little bit.

First, finding out we were pregnant again was such a wonderful and amazing thing. We were both thrilled and very grateful to be able to have another baby.

Before we found out what we were having I wasn't set on wanting either a boy or girl in particular. I thought a girl would be great because then she and Katelyn could be really close and best friends, but a boy would be great as well because they still could be best friends and we would have one of each!

When I found out we were having a boy I was so excited. I couldn't believe it. I thought we were having a girl. Now that I know a little boy is on our way I get so excited and nervous at the same time. I'm just so happy I can experience the differences and good things of having a girl and a boy. I get nervous because I've had sweet little Katelyn to take care of all this time and boys are different, I don't know how it will be. I'm not just talking about being different as a newborn, but being different as teenagers and dealing with all that.

I can't wait to see how much this little boy is like his daddy. I keep telling Nick he'll really be like me because Katelyn already reminds me so much of Nick :) I can't wait to see what he looks like. What color of hair he will have, what color eyes he'll have. I can't wait to decorate his room and think "blue" instead of think "pink" (boy do we have A LOT of pink).

I'm just about 25 weeks along. This pregnancy has gone by fairly fast, however there are days when I think "Can it just be January already??"

It's exciting to feel like I'm going through the exact same things I went through when I was pregnant with Katelyn. I was pregnant during Halloween and had a huge belly during Thanksgiving. Christmas was spent here at home. It's all just reminding me of 2009 and it feels nice to think back on those days when we were expecting Katelyn. They will be almost exactly 2 years apart.

I don't really feel sick anymore, so that is nice. I feel huge (I'm scared to think of what 9 months will feel like then). I feel him kicking more and more every day, but he doesn't seem as active as Katelyn was. I don't really crave anything. I haven't had heartburn NEARLY as bad as I did with Katelyn. That is one thing I am so thankful for, because I would be up for hours at night when I was pregnant with Katelyn just sitting there in pain.

Everything else is very well. We just can't wait for January 11th (or sooner) to get here so we can meet our little guy! I'm just absolutely thrilled to be having a little boy!!

Posts

I'm about to do a bunch of random little posts. Posts that I want to document in case one day I make my blog into a book or just print the pages for our kids to read some day. So here they go! There are a few below this.

Katelyn's Crafts..

As Katelyn is getting older I'm trying to find more things to do with her and spend time with her instead of getting on the computer or something. I decided that she's getting to the age where she can do quite a few crafts and have fun with it. I would love any ideas of crafts you've done with your kids because as I've started I know it's hard to come up with things.

So the other day I wrote a post about my crafts... here are Katelyn's crafts

We got her her own craft box and labeled it. She has it in her own drawer in the office now to use and store all her projects.

We've only done a few crafts like stamping, and puppets, and drawings, but I am thinking of more fun things to do! So share your ideas if you have any :)
She has done cheerio bracelets, she likes that and they are fun to do if you haven't tried it with your kid. Next I want to do hand prints and foot prints. And then holiday crafts for Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. It's nice because it kind of feels like a little "school time" with me and her. I miss teaching so teaching my daughter is very special and the best teaching I can do right now.

Here are some pictures of her with her box. She was so excited to get it and put things in it. She gave me some really cute cheesy smiles :)

 So excited!!

 I love my box
She loves that little doggy puppet in her hand and carries it all around the house and says "woof woof"

Nick's Crafts..

I've written about mine and Katelyn's crafts and I feel like this blog often turns in to a mine and Katelyn blog, which I don't want.

Nick does do things too. He is gone a lot and so we don't get many pictures of him. And I wouldn't say he does crafts like mine, but he is still a sweet husband and does things for me and Kate whenever he can:

Like I mentioned in a previous post. He made this ring by hand for me. It's amazing really all that he did to make it.
He is like my hero when it comes to a bad night. During my pregnancy he has gone to get Katelyn almost any time she has had a bad night. And nights when she is having a hard time going to bed even after I've tried helping her, he'll go in there and after he helps her and leaves she will fall asleep every time.

He made a DELICIOUS dinner for my birthday not too long ago. Nick is quite the cook. When he does cook he takes his time and he makes sure it's good. This dish was quite the process and to cook everything in the pot and then bake it was a total of like 2 1/2 - 3 hrs. And he grilled, I love it when he grills.

And last these were some beautiful flowers from our anniversary that he got me.
Well, there's a little of Nick and his part in our family. We sure love having him around appreciate all of his hard work!

Missing..

On Sunday I hopped in the shower to get ready for church. I take my rings off before showering and I set them on the counter.

I got out of the shower and a couple minutes later Katelyn woke up from her nap and came running in smiling at me. I was getting dressed, putting on my make up, talking to Nick and what not and she would run back and forth and play in our closet how she usually does while I'm getting ready.

I finished getting ready with everything and I went to grab my rings... and I only saw this one:
Nick made this ring for me as a Christmas present. Yes, he made it out of gold, shaped it, designed the little heart and everything. I'm not sure if I blogged about it, but it was so sweet and means a lot to me. I only wear two rings this one and...

Yeah, my wedding ring. It wasn't there and I got a little nervous but thought what if I bumped it onto the floor while getting ready or something?

I looked all over the bathroom floor, but couldn't see it anywhere. Then I thought to ask Nick if he had taken it (because he's hidden it from me before-- yes very cruel, he thought it was funny. ha) He said no, and I said "I'm serious babe, you need to tell me if you took it or not, I can't find it." Then he assured me that he absolutely had not touched it.

So of course, the next person I would turn to would be my sweet little baby, Katelyn. I was just thinking "oh my goodness if she took it this is bad" A lot of times she'll take things and then I ask her where she put it and she can't remember. So I got down, looked at her, and pointed to my finger and said "Katelyn, where is mommy's ring?"

She kinda just looked at me and skipped off to our closet.. And she stuck her hand in this little hole.

We have these shelf things in our closet to hold more stuff and the poles to put them together have a hole at the top. I quickly started trying to take the pole apart, Nick had to help me in the end and it popped off and about 10 items fell down through the tube. Yup, she had a stash of things that she wanted to keep hidden. I call it her "secret hiding place" guess it's not so much a secret anymore.
There was just a bunch of random and not so random stuff. Stuff that had gone missing and we had no idea where they went, so we just stopped looking. Like.. her toothbrush and my eyeliner brush. Random curlers she gets from my drawer, a straw (she loves playing with straws). And most importantly...

My wedding ring. I was so relieved. I'm just glad Katelyn remembered and actually told me where she had put it.
She was so crazy happy when she saw everything fall out! I think she puts it in there then can't get it out obviously so she just leaves it as it is and doesn't say a word.
She even tried putting more in right after! I had to stop her.

Kids teach you important lessons. I should have already known she'd be able to grab my ring off the counter, I'm going to have to keep it far away from now on.

Minnie

Katelyn loves minnie mouse. She just gained this obsession with her one day. I was wearing mickey mouse pj pants and she saw mickey and ran up to my leg and pointed and yelled "MINIIE!!" and I said "oh no that's mickey", and she looked at me and smiled then hugged my leg and said in a sweet voice "Minnieee" I couldn't correct her again after that :)
She has a minnie stuffed toy. She has minnie pj's. She uses minnie potty training panties, and she especially loves watching Minnie on "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" on Disney channel. Whenever I ask if she wants to wear something minnie she says "YEAH!" and smiles and runs to get whatever we are looking for. She'll randomly bring me her pj's and say "Momma, minnie?" and ask to put them on even if she's already dressed.

 Hugging her Minnie toy
Hey there.. don't know what she was doing haha
 Minnie PJ's!
I love Minnie

Crafts

The other day I went to our Relief Society craft day. It was a lot of fun and I made some very cute Halloween decorations (and for super cheap might I add). I love when others can get you good deals and even provide all the necessary material, so why not jump at the opportunity?

First I made these tile coasters. I love coasters for some reason, and I thought these ones were so cute! I loved the design and how they did it. We stamped on the design with a special type of ink-- I forgot what it is called, I'm so bad at remembering things that I forgot what every thing is called, sorry! I'll just blame it on the pregnancy-- anyways, then we went over it with some sticky stuff (again forgot what it is called). Then we just stamped letters on this cream colored paper, tore the edges and lay it on the coasters and went over it again with the sticky stuff! It was sooo easy. And here is the final result:

Then I made some Halloween countdown blocks. I love these countdown blocks and I've always wanted some. Especially some for Christmas too which the RS is going to be making soon as well, so I'm really excited!

For this we just painted all of the blocks. They had cute craft paper cut out and we just mod podged it on. I sanded down the edges and smudged on a little shoe polish to give it more of a worn out look. Then we put the vinyl numbers on and mod podge over that and were done! Very easy, you can do it yourself.
and there are my crafts together.. I know the tiles aren't really that halloween-ish, but they're still cute!
And now my Halloween table is all set up! I love Halloween.

One other craft I finished was my pillow. I started it awhile ago and then redid some of it because I didn't like the seam and the zipper, so I'm now just finishing it again. And I added a little flower on it too. I think I really like it. We'll see how long it lasts with Katelyn around :)

We ALL ScReAm FoR IcE CrEaM! ..Homemade Ice cream, fun for the kiddos

My little niece Ellie has this adorable little shirt and an adorable little smile/scream to go with it and I couldn't resist in copying her shirt as my title! And to leave you with the adorable picture to go along with it :)

Isn't she just a cutie?

Anyways, ICE CREAM. Don't we all love ice cream?? If you answered no then there's seriously something wrong with you. Just kidding, but that's just a little weird ;). I found this quick and easy homemade ice cream recipe that is PERFECT for a little treat with the kid(s), and fun to make and they can certainly help out!

Katelyn, Nick, and I had fun doing it as an FHE activity/treat after our lesson. It's so easy and you almost always have all of these ingredients (minus the rock salt).

So here is the link:

Or just read the recipe here:
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk or half & half
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 6 tablespoons rock salt
  • 1 pint-size plastic food storage bag (e.g., Ziploc)
  • 1 gallon-size plastic food storage bag
  • Ice cubes
**I would double it for two people, or you can just have each person make their own bag! This recipe makes a single serving-- a little less if you ask me, especially while pregnant...**

How to make it:

  1. Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
  2. Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.
  3. Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully.
  4. Shake until the mixture is ice cream, which takes about 5 minutes.
  5. Wipe off the top of the small bag, then open it carefully. Enjoy!

And here we are making the treat:
Katelyn really liked shaking the bag
I don't know what she was doing with her lips. She's doing it in the above and below picture. Silly
 Shaking the bag with mom
Oops, our bag has a hole! Luckily the ice cream was done before it started leaking :)

 Relaxing after our ice cream
 So happy
Cheese!

What Katelyn has been up to lately..

Katelyn is such a fun and funny little girl. She does the silliest little things and is quite smart.

The other day I did laundry and I let her play in the basket after I had put all the clothes away. A few minutes later she had flipped it upside down and would carry it across the living room to her desired destination. First she took it to the light switch and climbed up and got a kick out of finally being able to reach the switch and turn the lights on and off. Then she carried it to the kitchen counter and grabbed Nick's stash of candy.. her face was so funny when I asked her what she had. She smiled, hugged the bag, and replied "andy andy!" (candy, candy)

I had to give her some after that :)

Basically all day yesterday it was her and the laundry basket going to wherever and finding new and exciting things you can do with being a foot and a half taller.

We've also introduced potty training. She's uh.. still learning. I'm taking it slow, but I just hope she'll take the next few months and become a pro by the time baby #2 comes. She's made it in once. Out of about a dozen accidents. :) We'll get there.
Oh and there she is with her towel and headband on her head. There's just something about her and putting things on her head :) oh well doesn't bother us!

And one more thing I thought was really cute that she does is read. She'll often grab our ensign and sit on the couch and flip through it. Or she'll grab her books and just read them. The newspaper. She just likes to pretend she's reading or point out pictures and tell me what it is.

Here she is the other day. She climbed up on our bed, got cozy, and just read her book.

Nick was able to go to the BYU vs. Ole Miss game with some dental school friends. He had a lot of fun and BYU WON! It was a pretty good game, I actually watched majority of it on t.v. which is surprising if you know me. I think it was because I was trying to find Nick on t.v. :) but I'm glad I watched them win!
Way to cheer them on babe!!

Go BYU!

20 Months!

Katelyn is 20 months old and I can't believe it! That means in four months she will be TWO. Wow. And then a short week (i'm hoping just a week) after that the new baby will be here.

Katelyn is such a FUN little girl. I absolutely love her! We have so much fun together. She is so active and keeps me busy and entertained. She learns new tricks and silly things every day.

 She loves to climb
Sometimes she gets all tangled up in her blankets
One day she hopped in one of our pillow cases and was hopping around our living room and she thought it was hilarious. Then she tried making Nick and I get in.. that was very hilarious
She loves putting things on her head. She wears her towel around the house this time it was one of her bed sheets she pulled out of the laundry
Putting more stuff on her head. It was funny because she actually got her milk to balance on her head at one point.
Her hair is getting pretty long. I thought it was so cute that I could actually put it in a full ponytail behind her head!
Notice what she's done in this picture? Again putting something else on her head. She wears my headbands and puts them on backward sometimes. It's so cute
And last, a couple of pictures I took of her at 19 almost 20 months. :)
