What if I told you...

I was going to make our blog private?

For those private bloggers, how do you feel about it? Is it a hassle? Is it hard to get everyone emailed an invite?

I just hate not knowing who is looking at/stalking my blog. I'm also kind of hesitant putting pictures of Katelyn up because random people can just look at my blog.

So.. most likely this will occur. I know a lot of people read it that DON'T have a blog, so what do they do? Do they need a google account or can they sign in with another account? A lot of people read it who I DON'T EVEN know they read it.. doesn't mean I don't want you to :) just let me know you are reading it!

Please give all your input! I'd really like to know how it is having a private blog and how to make it easy for people who aren't very familiar with blogger to be able to log in to read and leave comments.

Thanks!

Well you have to log in anyway to leave a comment. So I don't think it'd be that much different signing in before reading the blog. The reason I don't like private blogs is cause I never know when they update it. Guess that's not a great reason, but it's most of mine. And I guess I don't really understand how making your blog private makes your info safe from blog stalkers?? Maybe it does and I just don't know. Anyway, don't think it'll be that big a deal, cause like I said, to leave a comment you have to sign in anyway.

I'm thinking the SAME thing, Dana. Every once in awhile I get a random comment from an anonymous person or someone who even leaves their name, but I have no idea who they are. And I have a blog counter on the side that says tons of people look at my blog...it just makes me wonder...WHO THE HECK IS LOOKING AT IT!??! hahaha. So, now that we're expecting, I was thinking of going private, too... I don't know. I didn't really mind having a public one with just Jayson and I, but maybe having details/pictures of kids on it is a good idea to make it private. Lots of my family members have their blogs private, and every time I click on their blog, it remembers my login so I don't have to sign in every time to see their blog. So, I don't think it's a hassle. We'll see what I end up doing... Good luck!

I like having a private blog. It took a little bit at first to set it up, but it wasn't hard. I feel better knowing that I control who reads and sees what I put up. Before I did it, I googled mine and Brett's name and sure enough, everything on my blog was there for people to see, but that is not a problem now that I have a private blog. Another reason I did was because I had a friend who had a random girl who started posting nasty comments all over her blog and she didn't even know my friend. I just didn't want to deal with any of that. I do feel like people read my blog less often since they don't know when I update it, but the people who care will always look whether it is private or not. Basically this long comment is saying that I personally feel safer with a private blog and don't find it a hassle, but of course it is up to you. :)

I feel alot safer with a private blog, knowing that ONLY my friends and family are reading it! It wasn't that bad to get it set up...just let everyone on facebook, your email, and the blog know that you're going private. Then you just copy-and-paste in the emails of the people you want to have access to your blog, and you never really have to bother with it again.
I know that I look at other people's blogs that I don't know...mainly just to get decorating/craft ideas. So maybe I'm a hypocrite, but I feel alot more comfortbale knowing some pedaphile isn't looking at my blog...

Oh, so I do have a friend who has two blogs. One that's private and another public one. The public one she'll post if she updated her private one so then it shows up on your blog roll as being updated. Maybe it's more work. But pretty much, if you don't want people to know certain things going on, then you probably shouldn't post it on the internet anyway. Cause it's the internet, and pretty much anything can be hacked on the internet today. Like I said, if you really don't want anyone but friends and family to read it, then going private makes sense.

I think it is a great idea. I like having my private because I know there aren't weirdos stalking me. The only downside is ppl don't know when you update.

Sounds like private is the way to go. Once you get it done help Isaac do his.

Going private makes it so people don't know when you update your blog, so you may not get as many people checking your blog as frequent, but I still think going private is a good idea. I like knowing who is looking at my blog. It's not too big of a pain to invite people. I created an update blog so if people really wanted to know when I updated mine, they could. I also use my facebook status to let people know when I've written a new post. As long as a person has an email account, they can have an invite to your blog.

Yes, I'm a blog stalker. :) I noticed on your facebook that you had a blog. We have a private blog and I like it. I like knowing everyone that could be looking at our blog. I have heard that people who don't have a blog or a gmail account can't log in, but I'm not sure if that is really true or not. I agree with some of the other comments about the private blogs not showing when you update it and I think it makes people look at the blog less often, but it doesn't really bother me. I really like knowing who is looking at it. I went private after getting some random comments from complete strangers. Especially since we have young kids, I just feel better having it private.
